These Are The Most Expensive Rubik’s Cubes Of All Time

     Speedcubing is known to be a relatively cheap hobby. All you really need to get started is a 10$ cube, and even at much higher levels, it doesn’t get much more expensive than that. However, there are some exceptions. This article covers the most outrageously priced Rubik’s Cubes and twisty puzzles that will definitely make your bank account shed a few tears. 

Gan 13 M MagLev Limited Edition

     The Gan 13 M MagLev is expensive enough, but somehow, it can get even more costly. A few times a year, Gan releases a special version of their flagship cube which they brand as a “collectors edition.” This cube is often comprised of translucent plastic and has special stickers you can put on. You may remember the Chinese New Year version they made over 2 years ago. It featured red internals and a special white face with Chinese characters and designs. The latest version of their collectors lineup is an ocean themed Gan 13 M MagLev with translucent light blue internals and translucent purple adjustment parts. The box is also made of the same material as the cube and the unboxing experience is quite amazing. 

     However, say goodbye to all your dreams of owning this cube because it costs a whopping $99.95! While this may not seem like such a huge amount of money, to put this into perspective, you can buy the YJ mgc 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, 6×6, and 7×7 for just $20 more than what it costs for one of this special Gan Cube. 

Swarovski Rubik’s Cube

     This may be the most pointless 3×3 of all time. Why? Because it’s covered in Swarovski crystals. This means that not only will it hurt to solve (and it’s probably not a speedcube either), but I don’t think anyone will be playing around with such an expensive item because this cube will run you down anywhere from $275 to $1,125 which is just absurd for what is technically a children’s toy. It was sold on Speedcubeshop for $600 for some time but got discontinued soon after. Unsurprisingly, you can also pay extra for a custom color scheme or even custom designs on the faces.

     Of course, the 21×21 had to make it on the list. As the highest order commercially sold “speedcube,” – if you can even call it that, – the MoYu 21×21 is also one the most expensive. Coming in at $1,499.95, this is by far the most expensive puzzle on Speedcubeshop. The price is largely due to its extremely high number of pieces. It has 2,709 pieces which is about 100 times the amount of pieces in a 3×3 which sort of justifies the price since it’s also about 100 times more expensive than a mid-range 3×3:

  • (2,709/26) * $15 ~ $1,500

     This product has 0 reviews on most online cube stores which suggest that almost no one owns this cube besides big cubing youtubers who have had the puzzle sent to them. This marketing strategy is not uncommon. Companies often release very expensive products in order to showcase their innovation and bring attention to their brand. Think about it, by making this cube, so many people were talking about MoYu and the 21×21 brought a lot of attention to their other products that many people actually may want to buy.
